The EMS Director is responsible for the administration of all aspects of the Emergency Medical Services including BLS, ALS, Inter-facility Transport, Medcom and Critical Care Transport (ground and flight) Programs, ensuring the high standard of emergency medical care and emergency dispatch.

The EMS Director oversees operational activities for the program and sets goals and objectives for the department. The Director standardizes polices and procedures and ensures the department's operations are compliant with federal, state and JCAHO requirements.

The EMS Director participates in community outreach activities and serves on state, divisional or system committees as appropriate. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, fiscal responsibility, growth, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.


QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Master Degree Required. Graduate of a recognized Paramedic Training Program.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: National Registry Paramedic and certified as a Paramedic by the State of New Jersey required. Current BLSHCP, ACLS, PALS/ PEPP certification required. Valid driver's license required. Proof of completing National Incident Command Courses ICS 100, ICS 200, and ICS 700 required. The ICS 300 requirement is required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. RN license preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years experience as a certified Paramedic with 5 - 10 years supervisory or management experience required. Must have a thorough knowledge of the EMS system both locally and statewide and familiarity with all aspects of emergency medical care and the roles of various health agencies. Understanding of compliance coding and billing preferred. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping and crouching a majority of the workday. Works with such equipment as computer terminal, fax machine, printer and copier.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position reports to the Vice President and CAO City Campus and supervises the EMS management team.
