JOB TITLE: Clinical Education Services Manager

REPORTS TO: Regional Director

DEPARTMENT: Clinical Education Services

LOCATION:  Buffalo, Rochester & Corning, NY

FLSA: Exempt

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Clinical Education Services (CES) Manager oversees the Clinical and Education Services activities for the Buffalo, Rochester, & Corning Operations. Represents AMR within local committees, medical & training institutions, and other related agencies. Responsible for the creation, implementation, and tracking of education programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Coordinates & manages the CES function for the Operations. Provides guidance and direction to the local CES professionals within the districts concerning a consistent approach to clinical education and processes
  • Oversees all clinical certifications to ensure compliance. Includes tracking and maintenance of all employee certifications and vaccinations in Oracle database
  • Partners directly with Medical Director teams and acts as a liaison for the operations
  • Responsible for the Field Training Officer (FTO) program. This includes, but is not limited to: leading the selection process of FTOs, monitoring & directing of the FTO program, assisting with the development of FTO guidelines and procedures, and coordinating the FTO committee
  • Assists in recruitment through involvement in area EMS classes and career days
  • Assists in the development of an orientation program and a system of continuing education
  • Responsible for managing and mentoring the local CES professionals with a goal of developing a team-oriented approach with positive results.
  • Ensures scholarship programs are evaluated regularly to ensure non-discriminatory practices
  • Develops & maintains a record keeping process of clinical testing including employee selection, scholarships, etc.
  • Actively participates in and/or develops a process for the evaluation and/or selection of equipment.
  • Develops an education process to include course objectives, examinations and manuals for use as lesson plans
  • Oversees orientation classes, IV certification courses, ACLS/PALS instructor certification courses, CPR/AED/National Safety Council first aid instructor courses, and certification courses on Lifepak
  • Oversees any clinical requirements related to contracts, agreements, etc.
  • Tracks and reviews events in response to complaints and/or compliments relating to medical performance.
  • Conducts clinical quality assurance investigations immediately upon receiving information regarding a possible protocol or standard of care violation. In most cases, investigations should be completed within 72 hours of initial report. Documents findings in writing & provides timely briefings to Regional Director on incidents and investigations as appropriate.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements quality improvement (QI) programs. In order to assure clinical excellence, programs should include, but are not limited to: proactive and retrospective elements of QI concerning clinical call reviews, chart reviews, and trend analysis for both individual and group clinical performance. Such programs should drive the continuing education (CE) process and related courses offered to field personnel.
  • Represents AMR with local EMS education programs to assure integration with internship and preceptor needs
  • Serves as a clinical resource for field and management personnel
  • Assists in the creation & revision of medical policies
  • Oversees clinical aspects of field performance. Conducts clinical call reviews and investigations
  • Coordinates evaluation program for paramedic school candidates

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Licensing/Certification:

  • Bachelors’ Degree preferred
  • Current NYS Paramedic Certification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Paramedic
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role
  • Experience performing, evaluating, instructing and coaching all aspects of the delivery of pre-hospital care

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.
