FACULTY POSITION: The University of New Mexico, EMS Academy is seeking an Assistant Paramedic Program Director to join our diverse and talented group of Emergency Medical Services Faculty. The Assistant Paramedic Program Director will support and advance a thriving paramedic education program, to include an academic undergraduate cohort, a certificate cohort, and satellite locations currently with the USAF on Kirtland AFB and the Albuquerque Fire Department.

Under the direction of the EMS Academy Director, the Assistant Paramedic Program Director provides academic leadership to students and instructors in the paramedic training program and satellites. The Paramedic Director position requires an ability to direct and manage multiple priorities, effectively analyze a range of educational situations, and make sound decisions using effective time management skills, good business acumen, and balanced administrative judgement. This individual maintains a climate of open communication, collegiality, and teamwork within the paramedic program, and actively supports the professional growth and development of the EMS instructors. The Assistant Paramedic Program Director ensures the availability of our unique learning opportunities for students, and is the first line of support for students and instructors. The Assistant Paramedic Program Director has responsibility for teaching, curriculum development, instructor assignment, course scheduling, program review, student learning outcomes assessment, professional development, institutional service, and community relations.

In addition to the EMS Academy our Department of Emergency Medicine has 65+ full-time and part-time attending physicians, and is also home to an outstanding EM Residency, EMS Fellowship, International Mountain Medicine Center and Center for Disaster Medicine. Minimum requirements: The successful candidate have all minimums addressed in the cover letter or CV to be considered for an interview. Qualified applicants will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, be a current Nationally Registered Paramedic. Ability to obtain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force Base. They will have a minimum of three years of field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care (911 response) and transport within an EMS system, have five years of paramedic level EMS Education experience, and at least one year of current experience overseeing an accredited EMS program at the paramedic level. They will have the ability to demonstrate current knowledge of the National EMS Scope of Practice, National EMS Education Standards and evidence informed clinical practice. Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments.

Preference will be given to applicants who possess a master’s degree or higher with three years of current EMS education program experience in the areas of administration, coordination, personnel oversight, curricular experience, and outstanding negotiation skills. In addition, experience with strengthening community relationships including demonstrated leadership and management skills in a highly productive higher education setting. Preferred applicants are fully licensed as a New Mexico Paramedic. (A candidate who does not currently possess a NM Paramedic license must complete the requirements to become a NM licensed Paramedic within 2 months of employment.) Applicants should have experience in teaching with a demonstrated track record of designing and growing successful programs through open communication, team building and advocacy. Finally, applicants should have a New Mexico Instructor Coordinator Certification (I/C). (A candidate who does not currently possess a NM EMS I/C must complete the NM EMS I/C certification and affiliation requirement within 2 months of employment. After NM EMS I/C certification is completed, compensation will be adjusted to reflect standard EMS lecturer compensation.)
