Salary: $49,675.00 - $72,228.00 Annually 

FLSA: Non-exempt position, eligible for overtime compensation.

Pay Grade: Civil Service Pay Scale

Hiring Range: Candidates hired that possess a paramedic certification will have a starting salary of $55,075. This salary is inclusive of Paramedic Assignment and Certification pay in the amount of $5,400. Candidates hired that do not possess a paramedic certification will have a starting salary of $49,675. Upon completion of a chosen paramedic program, and receipt of Paramedic certification or license, those candidates will also be eligible for the Paramedic Certification and Assignment Pay in the amount of $5,400/year. Candidate eligibility for assignment pay is determined by the Fire Chief. Longevity and Overtime are also available.

Work Schedule: M-F during Fire Academy and 24/48 upon completion of training. Schedule may vary if placed on assignment.


The City of Georgetown Fire Department is providing interested candidates with the option to participate in one (1) of two (2) written exam test date options for an upcoming Firefighter/Paramedic Entry Exam. Candidates can choose to participate in a written exam on November 3rd, 2018 or November 17th, 2018. Interested candidates may only participate in one (1) of the available written exams.

We are currently seeking Firefighter/Paramedics that are interested in serving our community with Fire and Emergency Medical Services. 

We have immediate plans to hire Paramedic, Firefighter/Paramedic, and/or Firefighter EMT-B candidates. Candidates that have recent 9-1-1 experience and a strong desire to serve the community with professionalism, compassion, and dedication are highly encouraged to apply.
Firefighter EMT-B candidates hired must sign a pre-employment agreement to obtain Paramedic certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services at a time that is convenient for the City and/or for the purposes of improving operational services. The location and duration of the paramedic program shall be stipulated at the convenience of the City. Candidate must complete and pass any and all entrance exam requirements to continue employment.

Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services are only the beginning. The City of Georgetown will be testing to establish an eligibility list for the Civil Service position of Firefighter.

Candidates possessing a Paramedic Certification,  both a Paramedic Certification and Basic Firefighter Certification, or  EMT's currently enrolled in a paramedic program may receive preference.

Applications will be accepted online until Monday, October 29th, 2018. With written exams occurring on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 @ 9:30 a.m. and Saturday, November 17th, 2018 @ 9:30 a.m.

**Interested candidates may only participate in 1 of the exams being offered**



Candidates are highly encouraged to participate in orientations and timed practices of the Candidate Physical Ability Test portion of the exam. Orientation and Practices will take place at the Fire Training Ground behind Georgetown Fire Station 5 located at 3600 D.B. Wood Rd., Georgetown TX 78626.

Successful completion of a timed practice will be counted as successful completion of the CPAT portion of the testing process and candidates will not have to retake the test on November 17th, 2018. Failure of a timed practice will not count against participating candidates. Candidates who have passed a CPAT six months prior to the written test shall be exempt from having to take the CPAT as long as proof is provided from the original testing agency or department. 


Orientation #1 -  Saturday, September 22nd, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Orientation #2 -  Saturday, October 6th, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Timed Practice #1 - Saturday, October 13th, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Timed Practice #2 - Saturday, November 3rd, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Timed Practice #3 - Sunday, November 4th, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
*Candidates that successfully complete a timed practice will not have to participate in the CPAT on November 17th

(Wear long pants compatible with physical activity for both the orientation and time practices, equipment will be provided but candidates may want to bring their own hand protection.)

Requirements

Must Be Certified as a Paramedic, Firefighter/Paramedic, or Firefighter/EMT-B at the time of written exam and obtain Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic Certification by date of offer and, in the case of Firefighter/EMT-B Candidates, acceptance and signature of a pre-employment agreement to obtain Paramedic certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services at a time that is convenient for the City and/or for the purposes of improving operational services. The location and duration of the paramedic shall be stipulated at the convenience of the City. Candidate must complete and pass any and all entrance exam requirements to continue employment.



And all of the following:

Have the ability to receive Certification as a Basic Firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. (Eligible to participate in a TCFP and GFD approved Fire Academy and pass Certification requirements mandated by TCFP following date hire)

Achieve a minimum passing score of seventy (70) percent on the written examination

Successfully complete the physical ability test
 
Pass a background investigation

Pass oral interviews

Successfully complete a polygraph examination

Successfully complete a post-job offer drug screen, psychological examination, medical
examination

Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and under forty-five (45) years of age at time of hire.

Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have an equivalency certificate

Have a valid Texas driver's license at the date of hire

Be a citizen of the United States by birth or naturalization, or a permanent resident

Be able to read, write, and speak the English language

Be of good moral character

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The written examinations will occur on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 @ 9:30 a.m. and Saturday, November 17th, 2018 @ 9:30 a.m.

The Candidate Physical Ability Test will take place on Saturday, November 17th, and Sunday November 18th, 2018. (A practice CPAT will be available following the written exam on Saturday November 3rd as well) CPAT times will be assigned following successful completion of the written exam.


Duties will include responding to all fires, emergency medical, and rescues & recovery alarms; sustaining high level of preparedness for emergencies; maintaining vehicles & equipment for fire suppression/prevention and for rescue & recovery.  Subject to callback for emergencies, special training and/or other administrative reasons. 

Completed Personal History Statements are due immediately following successful completion of the written examination. Packets must include all requested forms and any required notarization must be completed prior to submittal.

Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will receive an email with the Personal History Statements attached. Failure to return the completed packet along with required documents following the written exam will disqualify you as a candidate.

For applicants who wish to have military credit of five (5) points added to a passing test score of 70% or better, you must provide a copy of military discharge papers (DD214), member 4 copy, showing 1.) Honorable Discharge and 2.) A minimum of 180 total days of active military service.

In order to receive credit on the day of the exam you must bring a copy of your DD214 to the written examination and submit it to a City representative at check-in.

Preference may be given to paramedic candidates that also possess a Basic Firefighter Certification, Paramedics, and Firefighter EMT's currently attending a paramedic program. 

 

Certification(s)/Licenses Required:

Be certified as a paramedic or Firefighter/EMT-B at time of written exam and obtain Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic Certification by date of offer, if certified as a paramedic.

Have the ability to receive Certification as a Basic Firefighter through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection by date of hire if certified as a paramedic or currently certified as a Firefighter if an EMT-B only. (Eligible to participate in a TCFP and GFD approved Fire Academy and pass Certification requirements mandated by TCFP following date hire)

Valid Texas Drivers' License by date of hire.
