SVAA Mission:

The Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association is a non-profit organization serving the

emergency medical needs for the Town of Simsbury, CT. The Mission of SVAA is to continue to

deliver the highest quality of emergency medical care to the town with a 100% response rate on

first calls, while adhering to all state and local medical compliance regulations.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the business operation, providing quality

strategic and tactical leadership for the delivery of Emergency Medical Services to the Town of

Simsbury, CT. This position oversees both paid and volunteer staff, and reports directly to the

SVAA Board of Directors.

Major Responsibilities

The Executive Director will have the following major accountabilities:

Execute on strategic planning with the Board of Directors to ensure continued success in

a rapidly-changing medical and volunteer environment.

Manage day-to-day EMS business operations, including patient-care management,

staffing, training, billing, budgeting and compliance requirements.

Represent SVAA within the Town of Simsbury and among other first responder

organizations to ensure the town’s EMS needs are met with the highest quality of care.

Lead fund-raising initiatives to support the viability of the organization.

Ensure Medical Control compliance, continuing education, and State Emergency Medical

Services Certification of the operation members and paid staff.

Build an EMS organizational service structure to service a rapidly expanding town

population, while efficiently managing costs.

Requirements

Ideal Experience

Paramedic certification with at least seven years experience working in the field.

Five years EMS management oversight experience, including budgeting, operations and

staffing oversight or equivalent experience.

Emergency Medical Service vendor outsourcing experience, including software, staffing,

and equipment services.

Certified Hospital Bill Coder/Ambulance billing coding knowledge.

Bachelor’s Degree minimum, with a Master’s Degree preferred.

Critical Competencies for Success

Strong business operational leadership skills, including organizational oversight,

strategic planning, change management, and continuous performance improvement

skill-set.

Exceptional collaborative skill-set, with the ability to build and maintain lasting business

partnerships within the community.

Analytical thinking expertise, with the ability to gather, aggregate and analyze business

data, as well as use that data to make sound business decisions.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging,

engage at a personal level, and represent the organization to diverse groups of

customers.

Experience with differing technology and business application software used by EMS

organizations to facilitate care, patient records, billing processes, and scheduling.

Innovative thinking skills, with proven success in implementing new processes,

procedures and measurement of success.

Proven track record of leadership by example, including active participation in fieldbased

EMS initiatives, and the ability to recruit high-quality medical talent.
