Under general supervision, the primary responsibility is providing classroom instruction for EMS courses.  Other duties include, but are not limited to, curriculum development and evaluation, committee assignments, student recruitment, and student advising.  Requires strong organizational skills, good communication skills, an ability to effectively deliver practical hands-on instruction and include technology in the teaching of classes, and familiarity with all aspects of the EMS field. Must be accessible to students and maintain positive relationships with industry-related organizations and businesses.  The successful applicant will be responsible for completing requirements to obtain and maintain a current teaching certification from the Wisconsin Technical College System Board.

3.    Increase marketing of Fire training programs and reestablish our department as a leader in Fire/EMS education.



  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent* with education or training preparing a person for the occupational area being taught.  Appropriate training may include vendor, manufacturer, in-service or other structured on-the-job training in the occupation.  *Educational equivalencyOccupational experience combined with education and training preparing a person for the occupation totaling 7 years or 14,000 hours shall be equivalent to a bachelor's degree. Each academic credit or equivalent credit shall be equal to 110 hours of occupational experience. (a major in a healthcare, fire service, emergency medical, or other related area is preferred; equivalency is determined by considering occupational experience and other formal education).  Master's Degree desirable.
  2. Twenty-four months (4,000 hours) of verifiable occupational experience as a fully qualified worker in the occupational area, of which 2,000 hours shall be within the previous five years.  One year (2,000 hours) of related occupation experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years.
  3. Current State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) EMS Instructor II certification at the Paramedic level, or current DHS EMS Instructor I certification at the Paramedic level with ability to obtain Instructor II by start date.
  4. Current State of Wisconsin EMT Paramedic licensure (or equivalent, including Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Physician).
  5. Eligibility for WCTC Credentialing System.
  6. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and instruct quality education programs.
  7. American Heart Association BLS Instructor; ACLS and PALS Instructor preferred.
  8. Technology-based, simulation, and scenario-based instruction experience desirable.
  9. Two years EMS teaching experience in a technical college is preferred.
  10. Current WTCS Emergency Services Instructor I certification is preferred.


The EMS Instructor supports Fire and EMS Training and is available on or before August 10, 2018 (there will be an opportunity for Adjunct work immediately).

Teaching assignments include variable hours, including days, evenings, and/or weekends.
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the range at the 2016-17 rates and is based on experience and level of education. 

Associate's Degree: $50,621 - $63, 069
Bachelor's Degree:  $53,205 - $69,523
Master's Degree:  $57,763 - $77,713

Selected applicants will be invited to interview on February 26, 2018  Applicants will be required to provide a teaching demonstration.  The second interview will be an open forum format scheduled for March 12 2018.
